Vandals disguised as NNPC officials blow up gas pipeline

Daily Trust - - NEWS - From Eugene Agha, Lagos

Suspected vandals who disguised as officials of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on Tuesday blew up a gas pipeline belonging to the Nigeria Gas Company (NGC).

The suspects allegedly tampered with one of the valves on the pipeline, causing a huge explosion on Wednesday morning

There was no casualty during the explosion which occurred at Ogijo, a border town in Ogun State.

The suspects had stormed the area in two Hilux vehicles, camouflaged as maintenance workers of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), and gained access to the pipeline.

This explosion came barely two weeks after the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) threatened to extend its attacks on oil facilities in the Niger Delta region to other regions, especially the South-West.

Confirming the incident, NEMA South-west Spokesperson, Ibrahim Farinloye, affirmed that there were no casualties.
