Assem­bly shuts 2 min­ing coys

The Plateau State House of Assem­bly yes­ter­day said the or­der stop­ping two min­ing com­pa­nies op­er­at­ing at Zu­rak, a min­ing site in Wase Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment Area of the State pend­ing the out­come of an in­ves­tiga­tive com­mit­tee on min­ing set up by the assem­bly, still stands.

The Chair­man of House Com­mit­tee on Solid Min­er­als and deputy Speaker of the Assem­bly, Yusuf Gagdi, who led other mem­bers of the com­mit­tee to about five min­ing sites in Wase, said no agree­ment was reached with any min­ing firm in Zu­rak to re­sume ex­plo­ration and or­dered the two con­cerned com­pa­nies to main­tain the sta­tus quo.

Gagdi who gave fur­ther clar­i­fi­ca­tion to our cor­re­spon­dent yes­ter­day, said ear­lier than now, the two min­ing com­pa­nies; Jo­tex Ltd and solid units op­er­at­ing in Zu­rak, were asked to stop min­ing ac­tiv­i­ties due to is­sues with their host com­mu­nity.
