Bail: Omisore to know fate today
The ruling on a fundamental rights application by a former deputy governor of Osun State, Iyiola Omisore, comes up today at an FCT High Court in Abuja.
Justice Olukayode Adeniyi fixed the date after listening to arguments of the counsel. Omisore is in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on allegations of fraud.
In the application by his counsel, Chris Uche (SAN), Omisore said his continued detention without a formal charge in a competent court was a violation of Section 35 of the 1999 Constitution. Uche informed the court that Omisore was arrested on July 3 while the warrant to arrest and detain him was obtained on July 8.
But EFCC counsel, Takon Ndifon, opposed the bail request on the ground that the warrant of arrest and the detention order obtained from court permitted his detention for 14 days to enable the EFCC complete investigation into the allegations against him.
