The House of Representatives has passed for second reading, a bill that seeks to ensure that Nigerians are considered and employed in the country before foreigners.

Leading debate on the bill, the sponsor and House Leader, Femi Gbajabiamila (APC, Lagos) called for an amendment to some sections of the Immigration Act.

He said Section 36 should be amended to further restrict and regulate employment of foreign nationals and to provide for stiffer punishment for violators of the provisions of the Act.
