Po­lice ar­rest kid­nap­pers, res­cue vic­tims

Kid­nap­pers of the younger brother of for­mer fi­nance min­is­ter, Chief Anthony Ani, Se­na­tor Patrick Ani have been ar­rested by the po­lice fol­low­ing intensified se­cu­rity op­er­a­tions in Cal­abar.

Se­na­tor Ani was kid­napped one week ago in his farm at Ak­pabuyo lo­cal gov­ern­ment coun­cil.

Ac­cord­ing to fam­ily sources, Ani was re­leased some­where close to Cal­abar. They did not con­firm if ran­som was paid for the re­lease.

Po­lice were also able to re­lease an­other vic­tim, an Obubra-based politi­cian, Patrick Obase, who was kid­napped last week.

State Po­lice Com­mis­sioner Ji­moh Ozi-Obeh said his de­tec­tives ar­rested the kid­nap­pers yesterday shortly af­ter they ab­ducted one God­win Oduma from his No.14 Ny­ong Edem street res­i­dence in Cal­abar about 8pm on Mon­day.

The com­mis­sioner ex­plained that one of the sus­pected kid­nap­pers was ar­rested in their hide­out while oth­ers es­caped but that Oduma’s Pathfinder Jeep which the kid­nap­pers snatched was yet to be re­cov­ered.
