NHIS takes ser­vice to ru­ral com­mu­nity

The Na­tional Health In­sur­ance Scheme (NHIS), in a bid to en­sure that ev­ery Nige­rian has ac­cess to needed health­care, has taken its ser­vices to Alaide in Gwer East lo­cal gov­ern­ment area of Benue State.

Ex­ec­u­tive Sec­re­tary of NHIS, Mr. Femi Ak­ing­bade, said dur­ing the flag-off of the scheme chris­tened Gwer East Mu­tual Health As­so­ci­a­tion in Alaide, “The NHIS has adopted the Com­mu­nity Based So­cial Health In­sur­ance (CBHI) mech­a­nism which takes cog­ni­sance of in­te­gra­tion and so­cial sol­i­dar­ity in­her­ent in the Nige­rian peo­ple. It fur­ther recog­nises the role of the com­mu­nity in ac­tively mo­bil­is­ing, col­lect­ing, pool­ing and al­lo­cat­ing re­sources for health­care.”

Ear­lier, the tech­ni­cal fa­cil­i­ta­tor of the project in the area, Dr. Ken­neth Korve ex­plained that to be­come a reg­is­tered mem­ber of the NHIS at the ru­ral level, an in­di­vid­ual would con­trib­ute N150 monthly or N1,800 yearly for hospi­tal care.
