Philanthropist donates cash, foodstuff to police torture victim
A philanthropist has donated N50,000 as well as foodstuff to one Kabiru Muhammad who was hospitalized for two months as a result of alleged police brutality.ý
Haladu Muhammad, Sardauna Jimeta, handed over his donation to the victim in Yola shortly after his discharge from the Federal Medical Centre in the town. Kabiru spent one month in comma after he was allegedly tortured by policemen who arrested him during a crackdown on Indian hemp users in his neighbourhood, drawing condemnation from the public.
Police authorities that had denied subjecting Kabiru to torture, saying he tripped into a ditch while escaping arrest, confirmed paying his medical bills.
Presenting the donation, Haladu Mohammed said he wanted the victim and his family to pick up their lives again after months of difficulty.
