Phi­lan­thropist do­nates cash, food­stuff to po­lice tor­ture vic­tim

A phi­lan­thropist has do­nated N50,000 as well as food­stuff to one Kabiru Muham­mad who was hos­pi­tal­ized for two months as a re­sult of al­leged po­lice bru­tal­ity.ý

Haladu Muham­mad, Sar­dauna Jimeta, handed over his do­na­tion to the vic­tim in Yola shortly af­ter his dis­charge from the Fed­eral Med­i­cal Cen­tre in the town. Kabiru spent one month in comma af­ter he was al­legedly tor­tured by po­lice­men who ar­rested him dur­ing a crack­down on In­dian hemp users in his neigh­bour­hood, draw­ing con­dem­na­tion from the pub­lic.

Po­lice au­thor­i­ties that had de­nied sub­ject­ing Kabiru to tor­ture, say­ing he tripped into a ditch while es­cap­ing ar­rest, con­firmed pay­ing his med­i­cal bills.

Presenting the do­na­tion, Haladu Mo­hammed said he wanted the vic­tim and his fam­ily to pick up their lives again af­ter months of dif­fi­culty.
