Police deploy more men in N/Delta, promote 29 DCPs
The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris has disclosed plans to deploy more men to the Niger Delta region to check activities of militants and maritime crimes.
He disclosed this yesterday during a visit to the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas at the Nigeria Navy Headquarters in Abuja.
He said the police marine unit and mobile police unit would be deployed to bolster security efforts of Operation Delta Safe in the Niger Delta region. Idris noted that police personnel of the marine unit and mobile police units requires training from the Navy to enable them operate in the riverine terrain.
Meanwhile, the Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 22 Commissioners of Police to Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIG). A statement from the spokesman of the commission, Ikechukwu Ani, said it also endorsed the promotion of 29 Deputy Commissioners of Police to the rank of Commissioners.
He said the commission had on Tuesday, July 19, screened the 29 deputy Commissioners of Police at its office in Abuja. The screening panel was headed by the Chairman of the Commission, Sir Dr. Mike Mbama Okiro, a retired Inspector General of Police, and other Members of the Commission.
