Po­lice de­ploy more men in N/Delta, pro­mote 29 DCPs

The Act­ing In­spec­tor Gen­eral of Po­lice (IGP) Ibrahim Idris has dis­closed plans to de­ploy more men to the Niger Delta re­gion to check ac­tiv­i­ties of mil­i­tants and mar­itime crimes.

He dis­closed this yes­ter­day dur­ing a visit to the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Ad­mi­ral Ibok-Ete Ibas at the Nige­ria Navy Head­quar­ters in Abuja.

He said the po­lice marine unit and mo­bile po­lice unit would be de­ployed to bol­ster se­cu­rity ef­forts of Op­er­a­tion Delta Safe in the Niger Delta re­gion. Idris noted that po­lice per­son­nel of the marine unit and mo­bile po­lice units re­quires train­ing from the Navy to en­able them op­er­ate in the river­ine ter­rain.

Mean­while, the Po­lice Ser­vice Com­mis­sion (PSC) has ap­proved the pro­mo­tion of 22 Com­mis­sion­ers of Po­lice to As­sis­tant In­spec­tors Gen­eral of Po­lice (AIG). A state­ment from the spokesman of the com­mis­sion, Ikechukwu Ani, said it also en­dorsed the pro­mo­tion of 29 Deputy Com­mis­sion­ers of Po­lice to the rank of Com­mis­sion­ers.

He said the com­mis­sion had on Tues­day, July 19, screened the 29 deputy Com­mis­sion­ers of Po­lice at its of­fice in Abuja. The screen­ing panel was headed by the Chair­man of the Com­mis­sion, Sir Dr. Mike Mbama Okiro, a re­tired In­spec­tor Gen­eral of Po­lice, and other Mem­bers of the Com­mis­sion.
