The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has said that the House is determined to pass its own version of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB).

Speaking at the national stakeholders’ summit on petroleum industry reforms organised by the House Representatives Committees on Petroleum (Upstream and Downstream), the speaker said that the House was aware of failed attempts to reform the petroleum industry by their predecessors, saying that the present Assembly would pass the PIB.

The speaker said that contentious areas in the PIB would be revisited while inputs of stakeholders would be considered in making the new law .

He stressed the need to pass the PIB, saying: “The passion for change has provided the muchneeded energy for us to push reforms in critical sectors of our country. We are determined to take this cause across vital sectors of the economy with specific attention on the petroleum industry.”
