Cus­toms in­ter­cepts bul­let-proof jeep, as­sorted con­tra­band

Smug­gled ve­hich­les and other items seized by the Cus­toms at Oyo-Osun com­mand re­cently. Op­er­a­tives of the Nige­ria Cus­toms Ser­vice, Oyo/Osun Area Com­mand, have in­ter­cepted a bul­let-proof Toy­ota Land Cruiser Prado jeep as well as 24 other as­sorted ve­hi­cles laden with con­tra­bands.

The items in­cluded im­ported for­eign rice and other gen­eral goods, the Cus­toms Area Con­troller for the Com­mand, Mr. Temi­tope Ogunkua, has dis­closed.

Ogunkua who pa­raded the seizures to news­men in Ibadan re­vealed that the feat was recorded within the first six months of the year fol­low­ing the re­silience of the of­fi­cers and men in their de­ter­mi­na­tion to com­bat smug­gling in the area.

Ac­cord­ing to the Cus­toms boss, a to­tal of 342 50kg bags of rice with Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N2,944,620, loaded in 23 of the seized ve­hi­cles had al­ready been ex­am­ined while the DPV and the quan­tity of rice in the two other trucks would be as­cer­tained on ex­am­i­na­tion af­ter the brief­ing.

“The seizures were made at dif­fer­ent lo­ca­tions within the com­mand’s area of cov­er­age,” he said.
