Massive blaze breaks out halfway up 75-storey luxury tower in Dubai
A residential 75-storey skyscraper in Dubai has caught fire in the densely populated Marina district, sending plumes of smoke into the air. Pieces of the building’s facade have been falling off and tumbling below as the blaze engulfed the Sulafa Tower yesterday. The fire appears to have started on the 35th floor and quickly spread to other floors and the sides of the building. Nora Maki, who lives across the street, says the flames ‘spread like wildfire’ but that firefighters ‘did an amazing job’ of getting it under control. There were no immediate reports of injuries and eight fire engines are at the scene. The nearby Westin Dubai hotel said displaced Sulafa Tower residents can take shelter inside its ballroom.
