Oyedeji re­tires from D’Tigers 15 DAYS TO GO

The Nige­ria’s se­nior na­tional men’s bas­ket­ball team’s long serv­ing cap­tain, Olu­mide Oyedeji, on Wed­nes­day re­signed from the D’Tigers.

Oyedeji, who an­nounced his res­ig­na­tion on his twit­ter han­dle, bid his team­mates farewell as they pre­pared for the Sum­mer Rio Olympics in Brazil.

He cited per­sonal rea­sons for his leav­ing the D’Tigers. Oyedeji has served the na­tion for two decades, and cap­tained the team that won the 2015 Africa Na­tions Bas­ket­ball Cup in Tu­nisia, the first ma­jor tro­phy to be won by Nige­ria in the sport.

He also cap­tained the team to Nige­ria’s first bas­ket­ball out­ing at the Lon­don 2012 Olympic Games where they were ousted in the first round.

His first ma­jor out­ing for Nige­ria was in 1998 where he was in the team that rep­re­sented the coun­try in the World Cup in Greece.

He has played all over the world, in­clud­ing the U.S. NBA, Rus­sia, China and oth­ers. (NAN)
