Gaidam lauds NAHCON on hajj refunds

- From Kabir Hamisu Matazu, Damaturu

Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe State has commended the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) for paying back to pilgrims across the states monies collected from them but for which services were not rendered during the 2014 and 2015 pilgrimages to Saudi Arabia.

“I commend the effort of NAHCON for recovering and releasing the sum of over N1.7 billion meant for services not rendered to 2014 and 2015 pilgrims covering all states in the country. Here in Yobe State, the state Pilgrims Commission has received the sum of over N83 million. Substantial part of the sum has since been paid to the beneficiaries. I applaud this initiative,” Gaidam said.

The governor spoke yesterday when officials of the state pilgrims commission and leader of the 2015 Hajj exercise, Alhaji Ahmad Tijjani Ibn Saleh visited to present to him report on the conduct of the last Hajj to Saudi Arabia.

Governor Gaidam said his administration would continue to render to pilgrims from the state all necessary support to ensure that their trip out of the country for pilgrimage is always conducted with ease.
