UniJos student nearly killed for tackling armed robbers

Daily Trust - - NEWS - From Lami Sadiq, Jos

A 100-level student of University of Jos, Simon Ameh, barely survived multiple stabbings when he tackled two armed robbers who lured him out of his apartment by tampering with his power generating set around Eto Baba, Jos north local government area of Plateau State.

Ameh, a student of Early Child Education, had last week moved to the area due to its proximity to the school but armed robbers had stormed his apartment and made away with six phones, including those of neighbours brought to him for charging.

He said his generator started to jack around 9:58 pm, and that thinking it was low on fuel, he went out to check but as soon as he bent to take a look, two men, pointing a gun at him, asked him to return to the room.

“They asked me and two ladies charging their phones in the room to lie down. One pointed a gun at us while the other robber raided my belongings. They took all the phones, my wallet and clothes but as the one with the gun stepped out, I jumped and grabbed the ‘unarmed’ robber but unknown to me he had a knife and he started to stab me in multiple places,” he said.

Our correspondent gathered that the knife-bearing robber fled but left behind a pair of slippers, a jacket and the knife.
