Shehu of Bama’s wife, daughter rescued from insurgents
A queen and a princess of Shehu of Bama in Borno State, who were abducted by insurgents almost two years ago, have been rescued by the military in Borno.
The General Commanding officer of 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. Victor Ezugwu handed over the queen and her daughter to the Shehu of Bama, Alhaji Umar IBN Kyari El-kanemi at his residence in Maiduguri yesterday.
Daily Trust gathered that the queen and two children were abducted when insurgents invaded Bama town two years ago, and that one of the two abducted children, a male, had been killed by the insurgents, while the military rescued the wife of the Bama monarch and the female child around the Damboa axis on Sunday.
“We are happy to see the wife and daughter of our Royal Highness back after their abduction in Bama on 1st September 2014, but we are sober because the son of the royal father who was abducted along with the queen has been killed,” one of the visitors to the residence said.
The dignitaries who visited the residence included the wife of the Borno State Governor, Nana Shttima, and the Deputy Governor, Usman Durkwa.
Journalists were not allowed into the residence of the Shehu of Bama.
