Despite serious injuries sustained by their goalkeepers in the match against Rangers FC on Saturday, Lobi Stars have continued to savour the 1-1 draw against the ‘Flying Antelopes’ at the Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium.

Lobi Stars goalkeeper Okemute Odah was badly injured in the first half and John Lawrence who replaced him was also given a kick in the face leading to serious bleeding in his nose.

He, however, managed to keep throughout the remaining minutes of the tension soaked encounter and also ensured that Lobi left Enugu with a point.

Speaking to Daily Trust, Lobi Stars inspirational midfielder, Raphael Ayagwa said it was a battle that required shedding of blood but Lobi stood their ground to get the important draw.

He said immediately after Kingsley Eduwo equalised for Lobi, Sunday Akleche was given a red card but that did not disorganise their game plan.

Ayagwa maintained that when they were a man down, they had to up their game to make up for the missing man in their fold.

“It was a bloody day for us in Enugu. It took real guts and courage for us to get the away point. Rangers did everything to stop us.

“Our goalkeepers were badly injured and a red card was awarded against us but that did not deter us. We stuck to our game plan.

“We were motivated by the draw Ikorodu United recorded against us in Makurdi. We felt strongly that if a struggling side like Ikorodu could hold us, we should also be able to hold Rangers. If not for the rain that disturbed us, we were going beating Rangers in front of their fans,” he said.

Lobi Stars had beaten Rangers 1-0 in the first round match played at the Aper Aku stadium.
