Po­lice ar­rest girl, 18, over sale of own baby

Oper­a­tives from the Enugu State Po­lice Com­mand said they have ar­rested one Okike Ezinne,18, from Isu Mbaneze in Ohaozara Local Gov­ern­ment Area of Ebonyi State, who is also the mother of an 18-month-old baby for al­legedly sell­ing the baby for N300,000.

The state Po­lice Pub­lic Re­la­tions Of­fi­cer, Ebere Amaraizu who con­firmed the in­ci­dent, said that Ezinne told the po­lice that she had the baby girl out of wed­lock and de­cided to keep her, ex­cept that life be­came tough for her.

She said her in­ti­mate friend called Prom­ise God­win, 20, from her area in Ebonyi State, lured her to Enugu with the child, promis­ing that some­body would cater for her and the baby.

Ezinne said she joined her friend and se­cured a house at Coal Camp area, a sub­urb of Enugu metropo­lis, and that some­time in March 2016, she found that the friend had per­fected the bar­gain for the sale of the baby in ques­tion for N300,000.

Ac­cord­ing to Ezinne, af­ter strik­ing a deal with Prom­ise and Glo­ria for the sale of the baby, the baby was taken to a place called Limca Bus Stop at Okigwe, Imo State along Enugu-Port Har­court Ex­press Road where she was sold for N300,000 cash af­ter which they re­turned to Enugu where they shared the money in the fol­low­ing or­der: N200,000 for the baby’s mother, N50,000 for Prom­ise and the re­main­ing N500,000 for the mo­tor­cy­clist work­ing with God­win Prom­ise.
