Kebbi NLC chairman ‘sacked’

Daily Trust - - NEWS - From Ismail Adebayo, Birnin Kebbi

The Executive Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kebbi State chapter, has removed its chairman, Comrade Murtala Usman.

His removal was effected at a meeting held by the leadership of the congress at its secretariat yesterday in Birnin Kebbi, but indication has already emerged that the public has not heard the last of the development.

While addressing journalists, the congress’s vice chairman, Comrade Sabitu Lawal said the NLC decided to replace the former chairman with Comrade Umar Halidu Alhassan following the former chairman’s dismissal by his employer, the Kaduna Electric Distribution Company (KEDCO) in July last year. “By this, he was automatically disqualified from being the state chairman of the NLC,” he said, adding that Usman refused to abide by earlier efforts to allow him to resign.”

In his reaction, the Chairman of the National Union of Teachers in Kebbi State, Sanusi Umar, dismissed the action of the leadership of the state congress, insisting that the ‘impeached’ chairman remained the leader of NLC in the state. “As I speak to you, he is on his way to Abuja to represent the congress at a national assignment,” he said.
