Court stops documentation of Army General’s retirement
A National Industrial Court in Abuja has ordered the Nigerian Army to stop further documentation of the retirement of Major General Ijioma Okonkwo Ijioma.
Justice M.N. Esowe yesterday ordered the army to put on hold all documentation relating to the claimant’s exit until the determination of the main suit.
The judge further ruled that the grant of the order reliefs sought by Ijioma would be pre-emptive of the decision of the court in the main suit.
Ijioma’s counsel, Godwin Iyinbor, had moved the application for a restraining injunction against the army, the Minister of Defence, Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of Army Staff from giving effect to the letter of his retirement.
Ijioma said he was dismissed via a letter dated June 9, 2016 along with other officers on allegations of involvement in an arms scandal.
He also wants the court to award N6 billion against the defendants as damages, and an apology in three national newspapers. The judge fixed the suit to October 12 for hearing.
