‘AMAC on track to improving revenue base’

Daily Trust - - CITY NEWS - By Taiwo Adeniyi

The Chief Accountant in the State House, Dimas Hamidu, has said the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) is on track in improving its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

Hamidu, who was a resource person at a 2016 AMAC revenue summit “Improving Internally Generated Revenue for Grassroots Development,” said the council’s constitution of economic team, consultants and trainings for its revenue officers is pointer to the readiness of the council to boost its IGR.

“This is the right step for the council to generate tangible revenue, without depending on their statutory allocation from the federation account,” he said.

While presenting one of the two papers during the summit titled, ‘The Concept of Revenue Budgeting At The Local Government Level,’ he said for there to be improvement of IGR in any local government setting, there should be adequate data for the relevant authorities to know those they are approaching for the revenue and what to be collected.

He added that there has to be adequate knowledge of what constitutes the revenue base of the council; to enable revenue officers know what should accrue to the council.
