Anam­bra po­lice shoot fe­male rob­ber, 4 others in gun bat­tle

A fe­male mem­ber of a five-man rob­bery gang was re­cently shot dead by the Anam­bra Spe­cial Anti-Rob­bery (SARS) in a gun bat­tle in As­aba, Delta State.

The wo­man is said to have been gunned down along Nnebis road in As­aba fol­low­ing a tip-off by the Delta State Po­lice Com­mand.

Brief­ing news­men in Awkuzu, the Anam­bra State Po­lice Com­mand Pub­lic Re­la­tions Of­fi­cer, Ali Okechukwu, said the Delta State Po­lice Com­mand ar­rested and handed over one of the sus­pects to the Anam­bra Spe­cial Anti-Rob­bery Squad.

He said the sus­pect, who he de­scribed as the most wanted rob­bers pop­u­larly called Obosima, on in­ter­ro­ga­tion, con­fessed to se­ries of armed rob­bery and car snatch­ing in­ci­dents they car­ried out within and out­side the state.

"He opted to lead op­er­a­tives to their hide­out in As­aba, Delta State," he said.

Ali said the op­er­a­tives were, how­ever, at­tacked by the gang and in the shoot out one of them, iden­ti­fied as Chuma Anyichie and an uniden­ti­fied fe­male, were ar­rested with bul­let in­juries but the for­mer died few min­utes later at the scene.

Ac­cord­ing to the spokesper­son, the same gang had ear­lier ran into a vig­i­lante group pro­vid­ing se­cu­rity in Awka-Ek­iti adding that the rob­bers gunned down one of the vig­i­lantes as they shot spo­rad­i­cally.

He said the corpse of the young vig­i­lante who died on the spot was still in the mor­tu­ary.
