1 killed, 20 arrested in Ekiti cult clash
At least one person has been confirmed dead by the traditional ruler of Ikere Ekiti, Oba Adejimi Adu Alagbado, following a cult clash in the town yesterday.
Twenty others have also been arrested by vigilantes and handed over to the police.
But some residents of the town told our correspondent that no fewer than five had lost their lives in the clash with most of them hacked to death in Araromi area of the town.
It was gathered that cult members in the town have unleashed terror, launching attacks and counter-attacks since the beginning of the week.
Security has been beefed up in the community as Police now conduct stop-and-search on vehicles coming in and out of the town.
Residents now go to bed early while shops, business centres and places of worship now close early because of the security scare.
The state police spokesman Alberto Adeyemi could not be reached on his mobile phone to confirm the killings. He had also not responded to a text message sent to him as of press time.
But the Ogoga of Ikere, Oba Adejimi Adu Alagbado, confirmed that one person had been killed so far in the clashes.
