Motorists raise alarm as erosion washes away Gombe-Darazo road
Travellers plying GombeDarazo road have expressed concern over theportion of the road washed away by erosion, thereby threatening to cut off Gombe from other parts of the country.
The 128-kilometre road owned by Gombe and Bauchi state governments, provides access for travellers going to Gombe and neighbouring states of Adamawa and Taraba from all the seven states in the North-West.
The road was reconstructed about 16 years ago but apart from portholes, a gully erosion has washed away a portion of the road some few kilometres away from Dukku Local Government Area of the state.
Our correspondent who visited the road, observed that a particular portion near Bojude town has been completely washed away, with motorists using the shoulder passage.
Some of the drivers who spoke to Daily Trust said their fear was there is no diversion nearby in the event the shoulder which they now manage is washed away.
When contacted, the Permanent Secretary of the Gombe State Ministry of Works, Engineer Abubakar Bappa, said assessment team from the ministry had since visited the site and very soon work would commence. of the road for
