Mo­torists raise alarm as ero­sion washes away Gombe-Darazo road

Trav­ellers ply­ing GombeDarazo road have ex­pressed con­cern over the­p­or­tion of the road washed away by ero­sion, thereby threat­en­ing to cut off Gombe from other parts of the coun­try.

The 128-kilo­me­tre road owned by Gombe and Bauchi state gov­ern­ments, pro­vides ac­cess for trav­ellers go­ing to Gombe and neigh­bour­ing states of Adamawa and Taraba from all the seven states in the North-West.

The road was re­con­structed about 16 years ago but apart from port­holes, a gully ero­sion has washed away a por­tion of the road some few kilo­me­tres away from Dukku Lo­cal Govern­ment Area of the state.

Our cor­re­spon­dent who vis­ited the road, ob­served that a par­tic­u­lar por­tion near Bo­jude town has been com­pletely washed away, with mo­torists us­ing the shoul­der pas­sage.

Some of the driv­ers who spoke to Daily Trust said their fear was there is no di­ver­sion nearby in the event the shoul­der which they now man­age is washed away.

When con­tacted, the Per­ma­nent Sec­re­tary of the Gombe State Min­istry of Works, Engi­neer Abubakar Bappa, said as­sess­ment team from the min­istry had since vis­ited the site and very soon work would com­mence. of the road for
