Guard killed as rob­bers at­tack home of UniJos VC

Gun­men sus­pected to be armed rob­bers on Wed­nes­day night at­tacked the pri­vate res­i­dence of the Vice Chan­cel­lor of Univer­sity of Jos, Prof Se­bas­tian Maimako, at Eto Baba area of Jos North lo­cal govern­ment area, Plateau State, killing a guard on duty.

The gun­men who at­tacked the res­i­dence around 8:30 pm, in­jured a po­lice of­fi­cer and left with his ri­fle, apart from gun­ning down one of the VC’s se­cu­rity guards.

Maimako took over as the VC of Univer­sity of Jos from Prof. Hay­ward Ma­fuyai on the 22nd of June. How­ever, at the time of the at­tack, the VC was said to be out of the coun­try.

The Univer­sity of Jos au­thor­i­ties did not com­ment on the in­ci­dent yes­ter­day but said a state­ment would be is­sued. The Plateau State Po­lice Com­mand yes­ter­day said the in­jured po­lice of­fi­cer was in crit­i­cal con­di­tion and re­ceiv­ing treat­ment.

Po­lice Pub­lic Re­la­tions Of­fi­cer (PPRO) ASP Ty­opev Mathias Terna, said, “The sus­pected armed rob­bers were many, which was why they were able to over­power the se­cu­rity men.”
