Guard killed as robbers attack home of UniJos VC
Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers on Wednesday night attacked the private residence of the Vice Chancellor of University of Jos, Prof Sebastian Maimako, at Eto Baba area of Jos North local government area, Plateau State, killing a guard on duty.
The gunmen who attacked the residence around 8:30 pm, injured a police officer and left with his rifle, apart from gunning down one of the VC’s security guards.
Maimako took over as the VC of University of Jos from Prof. Hayward Mafuyai on the 22nd of June. However, at the time of the attack, the VC was said to be out of the country.
The University of Jos authorities did not comment on the incident yesterday but said a statement would be issued. The Plateau State Police Command yesterday said the injured police officer was in critical condition and receiving treatment.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) ASP Tyopev Mathias Terna, said, “The suspected armed robbers were many, which was why they were able to overpower the security men.”
