Tenure policy suspended, not annulled – Oyo-Ita
The Head of Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita, yesterday denied reports that the tenure policy of the federal civil service had been annulled, saying government only suspended the policy.
The Director Communication in her office, Haruna Imrana Yazid, while reacting to yesterday’s Daily Trust report, said it was wrong to say that there was ‘no going back on tenure policy reversal’.
“The content of the letter that you referred to in your report is clear. It said:‘The current state of affairs of the tenure policy is that it is suspended as per the circular dated 20th June 2016’. This did not in any way say there was not going back,” Yazid said.
He said a core essence of government was to see to the welfare of citizens, including civil servants, and reviewing policies at improving the situation means what is being reviewed can be retained or better alternatives can be evolved.
