The FCT Special Task Team on Abuja Environmental Protection has smashed a syndicate that ferries beggars to Abuja and across some states.

The chairman of the Abuja Environmental Protection task team, retired Squadron Leader Abdullahi Adamu Monjel, announced this on Wednesday while parading the suspects at the FCDA Police Station, Area 11.

The leader of the suspected syndicate, Baba Gwarma from Kaduna State, said he was based in Karmajiji, an Abuja suburb.

Monjel further disclosed that Gwarma had three vehicles for the movement of beggars around Abuja as well as Nasarawa, Niger and Kaduna states.

He said the suspected syndicate leader has houses that he has rented out and also provided shelter for the beggars in the syndicate in Karmajiji.

The task team chairman said the suspect was arrested over 50 times, and assured that he would be charged to court.

Monjel further revealed that the suspect used dangerous weapons to resist enforcement teams but they were able to overpower and arrest him.
