CBN deputy gov Sarah Alade bows out of office

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Deputy Governor, Economic Policy, Dr. Sarah Alade, has bowed out of the CBN after 23 years of services.

Dr. Alade is retiring after spending two terms as the deputy governor as required by law.

At a dinner in her honour by the Economic Policy Directorat­e of the CBN in Abuja, the CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, said Dr Alade was leaving at a time when the ovation was loudest.

He said enjoyed a robust working relationsh­ip with her even as he thanked her for all he the support she rendered him while still in service adding that the CBN would also leverage on her wise counsel even in retirement.

“She did so well and I had excellent relationsh­ip working with her”, he said.

Dr. Alade was appointed Deputy Governor, Economic Policy, on 26th March, 2007. At some point, she acted as the CBN governor when the erstwhile CBN governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was removed by the then President, Goodluck Jonathan.

As a deputy governor, economic policy, she superinten­ded over the economic policy directorat­e, comprising research, monetary policy, financial markets, trade and exchange and statistics department­s.

As chair of the Monetary Policy Implementa­tion Committee (MPIC) she interfaced with the operationa­l department­s and coordinate­d technical inputs for Monetary Policy Committee (MPC).
