Farmer, 54, crushed in Kwali

A 54-year-old farmer, Mr. Etsu Malari, was crushed by a bus at Ijah junction, Kwali, on Abuja-Lokoja road on Tuesday.

A witness, Samuel, said the incident happened at about 6:47 p.m. when a J5 Peugeot bus ran over the deceased who was riding on a motorcycle.

He said the deceased was returning from Lambata village where he had gone to visit a relative when the bus which was coming from Lokoja axis ran over him.

He said the J5 bus driver alighted from the bus and ran to the police station for fear of being mobbed. He said the remains of the deceased was conveyed to Kwali General Hospital morgue.

When contacted, the Kwali Divisional Police Officer (DPO) CSP A.Y Abdul, confirmed the incident.

He said immediatel­y he was alerted about the incident, he ordered his men to convey the corpse to the mortuary at Kwali General Hospital, while the bus driver was detained.

“As I speak, the driver is in the cell and he will be charged to court immediatel­y after investigat­ion has been concluded. We have to find out if it was as a result of negligence,” he said.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the council, Mr. Joseph K. Shazin, has expressed shock over the death of the farmer.

The chairman, who paid a condolence visit to the family of the deceased, described him as a gentleman while urging the deceased family to take heart and accept the death in good faith.
