- From Yusha’u A. Ibrahim, Kano

The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission is to arraign former Commissioner of Health, Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf and a former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim over alleged 650,000 US dollars scholarship scam.

Briefing newsmen in Kano yesterday, Chairman of the Commission, Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, said contrary to speculation, the former commissioner and the expermanent secretary had case to answer before a court of law.

He said, “The attention of the commission has been drawn to a negative comment on the platform of social media that the former commissioner has been exonerated from the case and the seizure of his hospital by the commission in line with Section 4 of the Kano State Public Complaints and AntiCorruption Commission Law 2008 (as amended) was declared illegal.”

He said while the commission was investigating the two people, they filed two separate cases before a federal and state high court in their efforts to scuttle the investigation.

“And, what is before the courts is a mere fundamental enforcement process and an exparte order was issued to maintain the status quo. It was based on this reason that the commission relied on certain laws and recommended that Kano state government should suspend payments to this these people pending the completion of its investigation,” he said.
