Fake drugs: FG to re­lo­cate whole­salers

The Fed­eral Gov­ern­ment has con­cluded plans to re­lo­cate whole­salers of drugs and medicines from all over Lagos to a cen­tral lo­ca­tion, where their ac­tiv­i­ties can be mon­i­tored.

A state­ment from the Fed­eral Min­istry of Health yes­ter­day said, the Min­is­ter of Health Pro­fes­sor Isaac Ade­wole dis­closed this at the palace of the Oba of Lagos, Ril­wan Aki­olu dur­ing his ad­vo­cacy visit to the tra­di­tional ruler.

The visit was part of the min­is­ter’s work­ing visit to Lagos State for the im­ple­men­ta­tion of the Na­tional Drug Dis­tri­bu­tion Guide­lines.

“We do not want a sit­u­a­tion where any­body brings drugs and keeps it in the house, in the store, or in the farm and dis­trib­ute. We thought that we should im­ple­ment a de­ci­sion, where we will bring these drugs to a cen­tral lo­ca­tion where every­body will know what is hap­pen­ing there. We can mon­i­tor qual­ity and gov­ern­ment can also tax Ade­wole said.

The Min­is­ter said his visit was to so­licit sup­port of the tra­di­tional ruler in his bid to fast-track im­ple­men­ta­tion. He hailed the Co­or­di­nated Ware­house Cen­tres pol­icy, which he in­her­ited from his pre­de­ces­sor say­ing he was com­mit­ted to im­ple­ment­ing it.

He said the pol­icy was also tak­ing off in Aba, Onit­sha and Kano and hinted at the pos­si­bil­ity of adding more cities in the fu­ture. them,”
