For­mer Bauchi deputy gov­er­nor Garba Gadi dies

Aformer Bauchi State deputy gov­er­nor, Al­haji Garba Gadi, is dead.

He was 70 years old. Gadi died at an undis­closed hospi­tal in In­dia af­ter a pro­tracted ill­ness.

Cap­tain Bala Jib­rin, a close as­so­ciate of the for­mer deputy gov­er­nor, con­firmed to our re­porter on tele­phone that he died around 4:00 am Nige­rian time.

He said that the body of late Garba Gadi was ex­pected in Nige­ria and might be buried on Fri­day.

Late Gadi who was deputy gov­er­nor to for­mer gov­er­nor Mal­lam Isah Yuguda, be­came a stal­wart of the rul­ing All Pro­gres­sives Congress (APC).

Gadi who was the Dan­bu­ran Katagum, was deputy gov­er­nor from 2007 to 2011. He was im­peached at a time by the Bauchi State As­sem­bly but was re­turned by the court.

He be­came a lead­ing mem­ber of the APC af­ter serv­ing as the Na­tional Chair­man of the merger com­mit­tee which su­per­vised the co­a­lesc­ing of CPC with other po­lit­i­cal par­ties that gave birth to the APC.

He is sur­vived by three wives and 15 chil­dren.
