UNIBEN VC harps on tree plant­ing

The Vice Chan­cel­lor, Univer­sity of Benin, Prof. Fara­day Orumwense, has stressed the need for Nige­ri­ans to en­gage in tree plant­ing in or­der to pro­tect the en­vi­ron­ment.

Prof. Orumwense who made the call while flag­ging-off a tree plant­ing cam­paign in the cam­pus, said the ex­er­cise would check nat­u­ral dis­as­ter and add to the ec­static value of the in­sti­tu­tion.

He noted that the de­vel­op­ment was in line with the in­sti­tu­tion’s long stand­ing com­mit­ment to in­crease stu­dents’ in­ter­est to­wards a green en­vi­ron­ment and meet aca­demic goals.

The don noted that the tree plant­ing ex­er­cise em­barked upon by the Fac­ulty of Ed­u­ca­tion would be ap­pre­ci­ated in fu­ture and charged other fac­ul­ties to em­u­late the good work of their ed­u­ca­tion coun­ter­part. Ac­cord­ing to him, “it is a wel­come de­vel­op­ment. It will pro­tect our in­fra­struc­ture from wind and other nat­u­ral dis­as­ters. The tim­ing is ap­pro­pri­ate.”

Also speak­ing, the Dean Fac­ulty of Ed­u­ca­tion, Prof. Sun­day Iyamu, said the tree plant­ing cam­paign was to en­hance the aes­thet­ics of the in­sti­tu­tion and also serve as wind-bar­rier pro­tec­tion for in­fra­struc­ture.
