Fight harm­ful prac­tices with Au­gust meet­ing, Abia women told

The wife of Abia State Gov­er­nor, Mrs. Nkechi Ik­peazu, has asked women in the state to use the an­nual Au­gust Women Con­fer­ence to de­lib­er­ate on ways of elim­i­nat­ing harm­ful prac­tices against them.

Speak­ing dur­ing the flagoff of this year’s edi­tion of the Au­gust meet­ing on the theme, ‘Sus­tain­able Em­pow­er­ment for Ru­ral Women,’ Mrs Ik­peazu said Au­gust meet­ings had al­ways been a plat­form for women to dis­cuss some com­mu­nal mat­ters and to do fund rais­ing pro­gram to carry out com­mu­nity projects, and that this year’s Au­gust meet­ing should pro­vide op­por­tu­nity for the women to learn skills, im­prove them­selves and de­lib­er­ate on ways of elim­i­nat­ing ob­nox­ious prac­tices against them.

Also speak­ing, the wife of the chair­man of Isialangwa North Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment Area, Mrs Ugochi On­wusibe, com­mended the wife of the gov­er­nor for bring­ing this year’s Au­gust meet­ing ‘to the doorsteps of the ru­ral peo­ple.’
