1000 sus­pected kid­nap­pers in po­lice cus­tody – IGP

The In­spec­tor Gen­eral of Po­lice (IGP) Ibrahim Idris yes­ter­day said over 1000 sus­pected kid­nap­pers are cur­rently be­ing de­tained at the var­i­ous po­lice for­ma­tions across the coun­try.

This is even as he ap­pealed to the Fed­eral Gov­ern­ment to es­tab­lish spe­cial court to try kid­nap­ping sus­pects to bring about speedy trial of those al­ready in po­lice cus­tody.

The IGP, who is on a two­day work­ing visit to La­gos, made this dis­clo­sure at the Palace of the Oba of La­gos, Ril­wan Aki­olu tackle.

The IGP while field­ing ques­tions from me­dia men on the state of in­se­cu­rity across the na­tion said ad­di­tional 88 area com­mands will be cre­ated to boost op­er­a­tional ef­fi­ciency.

Ibrahim said they have al­ready writ­ten to the Po­lice Ser­vice Com­mis­sion (PSC) and are await­ing approval to kick off.

Speak­ing, Aki­olu said no cor­rupt leader will lead Nige­ria again, adding that he hopes Pres­i­dent Muham­madu Buhari will soon re­turn to Nige­ria hale and hearty.
