FCE Kano solicits Sanusi, Ganduje’s intervention on varsity status

Daily Trust - - NEWS - From Ibrahim Musa Giginyu, Kano

The Federal College of Education (FCE) Kano yesterday appealed for the assistance of the Kano State Government and the Emirate Council in reverting the college’s status quo as university of education as decided by the Federal Government under President Goodluck Jonathan just before the end of that administration in May 2015 but as rejected by the Muhammadu Buahri government.

The Chairman of the newly constituted Governing Council of the college, Malam Salihu Lukman Abubakar, made the appeal for a review by the Buhari government when he led members of the governing council to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and to the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II.

At the Government House, Lukman told Ganduje that a senator representing Kano brought up the issue and proposed a motion to make the college of education a university of education as pronounced earlier.

Responding, Governor Ganduje said the college was very strategic in the political equation of Nigeria and had long been awarding degrees.

On his own, the Emir of Kano told the visiting council members that with prevailing deterioration in the nation’s educational sector, there was a need for the production of more qualified teachers.
