Daily Trust - - NEWS - From Linus Effiong, Umuahia

Minister of Science and Technology Ogbonnaya Onu has flagged off the National Waste-to-Wealth program in the South-East .

Speaking at the flag-off yesterday in Umuahia, Abia State, the minister said the program was designed to employ appropriate technologies to convert the waste generated in abundance in both rural and urban areas into useful products.

He said the program would strengthen the place of science and technology and innovation in the search for a new beginning and help move the economy forward from being resource-based to becoming knowledgebased and innovation-driven for the good of all.

The minister reiterated that the programme would transform waste to valuable economic goods which would create wealth and jobs and stimulate national consciousness in the power of science and technology as important instruments for nation building, and called on the people of the Southeast to embrace the programme.
