Var­sity to get 5,000 tree seedlings to ad­dress de­ser­ti­fi­ca­tion

Al-Qalam Univer­sity Katsina is to re­ceive about 5,000 tree seedlings from a group, Katsina Youth Sup­port Against De­for­esta­tion, to sup­port the univer­sity’s drive against en­vi­ron­men­tal degra­da­tion.

A state­ment by the Head of Pub­lic Af­fairs Unit of the univer­sity, Ak­ilu A. Atiku, said the Chair­man of the group, Nafi’u Ma­harazu, said dur­ing a cour­tesy visit on the man­age­ment that the group was keen at de­for­esta­tion in Katsina State against “the luke­warm at­ti­tude of ma­jor­ity of the peo­ple” to­wards tree plant­ing to pre­serve the en­vi­ron­ment. He said that the group iden­ti­fied Al-Qalam Univer­sity be­cause of its stu­dent pop­u­la­tion and the need to in­cul­cate the cul­ture of plant­ing and nur­tur­ing trees in the up­com­ing gen­er­a­tion.
