Gun­men abduct bus driver, 5 pas­sen­gers in Rivers

Gun­men in the early hours of yes­ter­day hi­jacked a com­mer­cial bus in Rivers State and took five pas­sen­gers and the driver hostage.

The in­ci­dent oc­curred at 5: 38am, along Eli­brada Road in Emo­hua Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment Area of the state.

Sev­eral other cars that ply the route were forced to make a de­tour to Port Har­court till 8am when the road be­came free.

Our re­porter gath­ered that the bus was on its way to La­gos en route Port Har­court when the armed men am­bushed the bus and rid­dled it with bul­lets.

A wit­ness said the armed men used trunks to block the high­way and the bus ran into them. The wit­ness said the armed men shot di­rectly at the bus be­fore tak­ing the oc­cu­pants to an un­known des­ti­na­tion.

When con­tacted, the Pub­lic Re­la­tions Of­fi­cer of the State Po­lice Com­mand, Nnamdi Omoni, said five pas­sen­gers and the driver of the bus were kid­napped.

He said three peo­ple had been res­cued and the men of the com­mand were mak­ing ef­forts to res­cue the rest.
