Aisha Buhari com­mis­sions breast­feed­ing rooms in Kebbi

Wife of the Pres­i­dent Ha­jiya Aisha Muham­madu Buhari yes­ter­day com­mis­sioned breast feed­ing rooms set up by Kebbi State Gov­ern­ment for work­ing moth­ers in the state min­istries, de­part­ments and agen­cies.

While de­liv­er­ing her speech dur­ing the com­mis­sion­ing cer­e­mony at the state sec­re­tar­iat, Gwadan­g­waji area of Birnin Kebbi, Aisha who was rep­re­sented by her Spe­cial As­sis­tant, Ha­jiya Ajo Sani, said the ini­tia­tive which was the first of its kind in the coun­try was sig­nif­i­cant at the pe­riod when the coun­try was cel­e­brat­ing the world breast feed­ing day.

She said, “To­day’s event is tak­ing place at the state level in col­lab­o­ra­tion with my Fu­ture As­sured Pro­gramme with the aim to en­cour­age a sep­a­rate area where moth­ers can con­ve­niently breast­feed their ba­bies in the work place.”

Ha­jiya Buhari added that the ini­tia­tive would pro­mote the health and well­be­ing of moth­ers and chil­dren to­wards achiev­ing the Sus­tain­able Devel­op­ment Goals (SDGs).

She called on wives of gov­er­nors in other states to em­u­late the breast­feed­ing ini­tia­tive of the wife of Kebbi State Gov­er­nor, Dr Zainab Abubakar Atiku to­wards pro­mot­ing breast feed­ing among moth­ers in the state.

Ear­lier in her speech, Dr Zainab Bagudu said global sta­tis­tics in­di­cated that 100,000 chil­dren died an­nu­ally as a re­sult of in­ad­e­quate breast feed­ing by moth­ers, lead­ing to $21bn eco­nomic loss an­nu­ally.
