Armed police take over Yola North LG secretariat
Policemen have taken over the secretariat of Yola North Local Government following a leadership crisis between the chairman, Mahmud Abba and his deputy, George Raphael.
Police spokesperson Othman Abubakar promised to gather the details before talking to our reporter, but a police source said the measure was taken to avert possible breakdown of law.
Seven councilors had made failed attempt to impeach their legislative leader, a move the chairman alleged was a plot to get at him.
The crisis escalated after Governor Muhammad Jibrilla suspended the chairman based on recommendation of the House of Assembly following allegations of misappropriation from some of his councilors.
Upon return from his suspension, his deputy who served as acting chairman while he was away, refused to vacate office, insisting that since Mahmud had challenged the suspension in court, he could not resume office until the case was determined.
