Nige­ria to build hubs in Jed­dah, others for food ex­ports – NEPC

The Fed­eral Gov­ern­ment plans to build Nige­ria Her­itage Ci­ties in Jed­dah, Hous­ton and other ci­ties across the globe that have huge Nige­rian pop­u­la­tions to serve as one-stop hub for Nige­rian foods and prod­ucts.

Speak­ing in Abuja yes­ter­day, dur­ing a lun­cheon or­gan­ised to re­ceive a del­e­ga­tion from the Nige­ria Ini­tia­tive for Eco­nomic Devel­op­ment, the Ex­ec­u­tive Direc­tor of the Nige­rian Ex­port Pro­mo­tion Coun­cil (NEPC), Se­gun Awolowo, said the plan is part of the Nige­ria Di­as­pora Ex­port (NDEX) pro­gramme.

“NDEX is de­signed to be pro­moted un­der a pub­lic pri­vate part­ner­ship ar­range­ment, with the pri­vate sec­tor en­cour­aged to drive most of the ac­tiv­i­ties,” Awolowo said.

He said in ad­di­tion to this, NDEX also tar­gets to achieve Nige­ria Cui­sine Be­yond Bor­ders (NCBB), be­ing a ve­hi­cle for ex­port­ing Nige­rian cuisines abroad and Di­as­pora Ex­port of Non-Oil Prod­ucts (DENOP) aimed at at­tract­ing Di­as­pora par­tic­i­pa­tion in ex­port for agri­cul­ture, tex­tile and solid min­er­als.

Leader of the del­e­ga­tion from the Nige­ria Ini­tia­tive for Eco­nomic Devel­op­ment from Hous­ton, United States of Amer­ica, Dr. Al­fred Olabisi To­fade, said the del­e­ga­tion was in Nige­ria on a trade mis­sion to ex­plore how Nige­ria can pro­mote non-oil ex­port.

He said Nige­ria can earn huge for­eign cur­rency ex­port­ing to the US as there is mar­ket there wait­ing for Nige­ria’s non-oil ex­ports in phar­ma­ceu­ti­cals, cos­met­ics and raw ma­te­ri­als in gen­eral.
