Members of a vigilante group have arrested a 23-yearold man, identified only as Attahiru, for allegedly stealing a goat in the Abaji main market on Sunday at about 3:00p.m.

A member of the vigilante group, who preferred anonymity, said the suspect was arrested after he was caught slaughtering the goat.

He said the vigilante members were on patrol when they heard a goat bleating and moved towards the direction.

He said the suspect, on sighting the members of the vigilante group abandoned the goat and took to his heels.

“He had slaughtered the goat and was about putting it into a sack when he saw us and tried to run away. We pursued and apprehended him,” he said.

According to him, the suspect was taken along with the goat carcase to the chief’s palace, before he was later handed over to the police in the area.

When contacted, the Abaji Divisional Police Officer (DPO), DSP David Kolo, confirmed the incident.

“Although, we are yet to know the owner of the goat, the suspect had slaughtered it,” he said, adding that he would be prosecuted after investigation was concluded.
