Over 500 shop own­ers have been given the op­tion of first re­fusal for shops at the Kubwa Mar­ket which re­mod­elling is now 60 per cent com­pleted.

The Di­rec­tor of M. N. Ataj Con­struc­tion Ltd, Rabiu Sa’id, the firm han­dling the project, made this known in an in­ter­view with City News.

He said the mar­ket, be­fore it was de­mol­ished was turned into a place of un­whole­some ac­tiv­i­ties by hood­lums and mis­cre­ants.

He said as a re­sult of that, Bwari Area Coun­cil de­cided to de­mol­ish and re­model it to pro­vide a safe and con­ducive en­vi­ron­ment for com­mer­cial ac­tiv­i­ties. He also said that all le­gal tech­ni­cal­i­ties were taken care of af­ter set­tling with the traders through a Mem­o­ran­dum of Un­der­stand­ing.

Sa’id said 80 per cent of the shops at the mar­ket have al­ready been sold, adding that enough park­ing space had been pro­vided while roads around the mar­ket would be re­ha­bil­i­tated.

He said the mar­ket, con­sist­ing of 1,500 shops, is ex­pected to be com­pleted by March 2018 while fa­cil­i­ties in it would in­clude cold rooms, fire ser­vice sta­tions, and restau­rants.

Acom­mer­cial tri­cy­cle op­er­a­tor has been stabbed to death dur­ing a fight at a birth­day party in Katampe Ex­ten­sion on Tues­day.

Po­lice sources said the party, held in a shanty in the com­mu­nity. It was hosted by a food ven­dor at Tip­per Garage, Gwar­inpa.

A po­lice source said the sus­pect and the cel­e­brant were on the run.

City News learnt that the sus­pect fled af­ter stab­bing the de­ceased with a knife when a fight en­sued be­tween them dur­ing the mid­night party.

The de­ceased, ac­cord­ing to po­lice sources, was taken to the Gwar­inpa Po­lice Sta­tion at about 6:00am by his rel­a­tives when they got to know about the in­ci­dent.

The Gwar­inpa Divi­sional Po­lice Of­fi­cer, CSP Nu­rud­deen Sabo, iden­ti­fied the de­ceased as Hus­sein Ibrahim.

He said the corpse was taken to Kubwa Gen­eral Hospi­tal where the death was con­firmed.

He said the cel­e­brant, a food ven­dor, had closed her shop at Tip­per Garage, adding that “Ef­fort is on to ar­rest the cul­prit and the lady that or­gan­ised the party.”

He said the corpse was re­leased to rel­a­tives and buried on Wed­nes­day ac­cord­ing to Is­lamic rites.
