CITY NEWS Tricycle rider stabbed at Kubwa Maitama Market remodellin­g attains 60% completion birthday party in Katampe

Over 500 shop owners have been given the option of first refusal for shops at the Kubwa Market which remodellin­g is now 60 per cent completed.

The Director of M. N. Ataj Constructi­on Ltd, Rabiu Sa’id, the firm handling the project, made this known in an interview with City News.

He said the market, before it was demolished was turned into a place of unwholesom­e activities by hoodlums and miscreants.

He said as a result of that, Bwari Area Council decided to demolish and remodel it to provide a safe and conducive environmen­t for commercial activities. He also said that all legal technicali­ties were taken care of after settling with the traders through a Memorandum of Understand­ing.

Sa’id said 80 per cent of the shops at the market have already been sold, adding that enough parking space had been provided while roads around the market would be rehabilita­ted.

He said the market, consisting of 1,500 shops, is expected to be completed by March 2018 while facilities in it would include cold rooms, fire service stations, and restaurant­s.

Acommercia­l tricycle operator has been stabbed to death during a fight at a birthday party in Katampe Extension on Tuesday.

Police sources said the party, held in a shanty in the community. It was hosted by a food vendor at Tipper Garage, Gwarinpa.

A police source said the suspect and the celebrant were on the run.

City News learnt that the suspect fled after stabbing the deceased with a knife when a fight ensued between them during the midnight party.

The deceased, according to police sources, was taken to the Gwarinpa Police Station at about 6:00am by his relatives when they got to know about the incident.

The Gwarinpa Divisional Police Officer, CSP Nuruddeen Sabo, identified the deceased as Hussein Ibrahim.

He said the corpse was taken to Kubwa General Hospital where the death was confirmed.

He said the celebrant, a food vendor, had closed her shop at Tipper Garage, adding that “Effort is on to arrest the culprit and the lady that organised the party.”

He said the corpse was released to relatives and buried on Wednesday according to Islamic rites.
