HFN invites 35 players to camp for 2018 Nations Cup
The Handball Federation of Nigeria, HFN, has invited 35 players to camp preparatory to the 2018 Nations Cup to be staged in January in Gabon.
Disclosing this to Daily Trust yesterday, the newly appointed Head Coach of the men senior national team, Michael Taangahar said the camp will open on Sunday in Lagos.
He said the players were drawn from some of the handball clubs in the country and some foreign based players who are currently on holiday.
Taangahar said the first phase of camping will last till December when the number of players in camp would be pruned down.
“We have invited a total of 35 players to camp for the 2018 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.
“They are among the best players we have in the handball clubs around here. They will be joined in camp by some of our foreign based players who are holidaying at home.
“The first phase of camping will end in December. We shall then reduce the number as we try to settle for the best players we would take to the championship,” he said.
The former international who is having his second spell as the Head Coach of the team also said he knows most of the players and their abilities.
He therefore said he and other members of the technical crew will produce a formidable team that would do the country proud in Gabon.
“I know most of the players I have invited to camp. I was the Head Coach in 2015 so I am not new to them and they are not new to me,” he noted.
