Women coun­cil seeks end to child bombers

The Na­tional Coun­cil of Women So­ci­eties (NCWS) has warned par­ents to stop do­nat­ing their chil­dren to ter­ror­ists for use as sui­cide bombers.

Pres­i­dent of the coun­cil, Chief Glo­ria Laraba Shoda, made the call fol­low­ing rev­e­la­tion by the Nige­rian Army that some par­ents were sup­port­ing the course of Boko Haram in­sur­gency by do­nat­ing their daugh­ters as sui­cide bombers.

Shoda in a state­ment in Abuja yes­ter­day de­scribed the “Un­think­able de­spi­ca­ble.’’

She ad­vised par­ents and guardians to stop the prac­tice, adding that it was in­hu­man to do­nate chil­dren to be sac­ri­ficed for what­ever rea­son or mo­tive.
