The bridge which links Port Harcourt and its en­vi­rons to es­tab­lish­ments in the in­dus­trial hub of the state such as the Port Harcourt re­fin­ery and Fed­eral Ocean Ter­mi­nal Onne, col­lapsed about 5 am yes­ter­day.

Wit­nesses told re­porters that the bridge pop­u­larly called Okulu-Aleto bridge col­lapsed while com­muters were ply­ing the road, caus­ing panic among com­muters and lead­ing to a traf­fic grid­lock.

A res­i­dent of the area, Chris­tian Ezeh who said a sec­tion of the bridge caved in, blamed the in­ci­dent on land ex­ca­va­tors who he said were con­stantly dig­ging sand un­der the bridge.
