The bridge which links Port Harcourt and its environs to establishments in the industrial hub of the state such as the Port Harcourt refinery and Federal Ocean Terminal Onne, collapsed about 5 am yesterday.
Witnesses told reporters that the bridge popularly called Okulu-Aleto bridge collapsed while commuters were plying the road, causing panic among commuters and leading to a traffic gridlock.
A resident of the area, Christian Ezeh who said a section of the bridge caved in, blamed the incident on land excavators who he said were constantly digging sand under the bridge.
