Edo launches distribution of 2.6m mosquito nets
Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki at the weekend flagged off the distribution of 2.6 million long lasting insecticide nets with a call on residents to sleep under the nets to eradicate malaria.
The distribution was carried out by the state government in collaboration with the Catholic Relief Service (CRS).
Obaseki who noted that sleeping under the nets was cheaper than treating malaria, said his administration had set a 100 percent distribution target for the insecticidal nets as against the current 86 per cent.
On his part, the Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole who was represented by the Director, Public Health in the ministry, Dr. Evelyn Ngige, said Edo State had been in the forefront and continued to make giant strides in keeping up with malaria elimination intervention.
Also speaking, Acting Country Representative of CRS in Nigeria, Dr. Emeka Anoje, said Edo government was a dependable partner in the campaign against malaria through the provision of operational funds to support planning and logistics.
