Anambra gov’ship: INEC acknowledges people with disabilities

Daily Trust - - INSIDE POLITICS - From Emma Elekwa, Awka

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has expressed its readiness to involve People Living with Disabilities (PLWDs) in the electoral processes ahead of the November 18 gubernatorial election in Anambra State.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Dr. Nkwachukwu Orji, who said this during a one-day sensitisation workshop for the PLWDs in the state on the on-going Continuous Voter Registration Exercise at the ward level, said the commission regarded the association as valuable stakeholders.

He explained that the electoral umpire appreciated the challenges they encountered during elections and had remained committed towards assisting in any way legally possible.

Orji, who was represent by the Head of Department, Voter Education Programme, Leonard Nkedife, explained that the workshop was part of efforts to enlighten the electorate on the various electoral processes so as to avoid past mistakes related to voter apathy, violence, impersonation and misinformation among others.

He enjoined the challenged persons to serve as voter education officers in their respective neighbourhoods.
