SPORT Garba Lawal believes CHAN Eagles will still qualify

Daily Trust - - OPINION - By David Ngobua

Despite suffering a slim 0-1 loss yesterday against the Squirrels of Benin Republic, former international Garba Lawal said he believes the CHAN Eagles will still qualify for the tournament in Kenya in 2018.

It took a 90th minute penalty for the Squirrels to beat the CHAN Eagles who put up a spirited fight.

The return leg will hold on Saturday in Kano and Lawal is optimistic that the Salisu Yusuf tutored lads will get the job done at home.

He told Daily Trust that from what he gathered, the Eagles gave a good account of themselves even as they missed some scoring chances.

“The advantage now is with Benin Republic but I still believe that CHAN Eagles would win the return fixture and qualify for the championship.

“I learnt they did not play badly. Moreover, they have seen the strength and weakness of their opponents and should be able to make the necessary adjustments.

“So I can say there is no serious cause for alarm. They did well because there are no more minnows in international football,” he said.
