10,000 youth set to guard oil pipelines
Ten thousand youth from host communities of oil producing communities have been trained to secure oil installations across the country.
This was disclosed by the Chairman, Host Communities of Nigeria Producing Oil and Gas (HOSCON), Dr Mike Emuh yesterday during a visit to the head of office of Media Trust Limited, publishers of Daily Trust and other titles.
He said the youth have been trained by the Federal Government, with beneficiaries from all oil impacted communities including Kaduna, Plateau, Benue and other states with oil pipelines.
Dr Emuh said each host community was given 10 slots with beneficiaries recommended by the community head to fill the space, saying a form was given to each beneficiary, duly filled with guarantor details and sent to the court for verification before the job was given.
He called on the Federal Government to seize the opportunity of the present stability in the Niger Delta region to improve on infrastructure and living conditions of the people.
Dr Emuh commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the ongoing effort at cleaning up the Ogoni area saying the move at soil remediation in the oil rich region was unprecedented.
