10,000 youth set to guard oil pipe­lines

Ten thousand youth from host com­mu­ni­ties of oil pro­duc­ing com­mu­ni­ties have been trained to se­cure oil in­stal­la­tions across the coun­try.

This was dis­closed by the Chair­man, Host Com­mu­ni­ties of Nige­ria Pro­duc­ing Oil and Gas (HOSCON), Dr Mike Emuh yes­ter­day dur­ing a visit to the head of of­fice of Me­dia Trust Lim­ited, pub­lish­ers of Daily Trust and other ti­tles.

He said the youth have been trained by the Fed­eral Govern­ment, with ben­e­fi­cia­ries from all oil im­pacted com­mu­ni­ties in­clud­ing Kaduna, Plateau, Benue and other states with oil pipe­lines.

Dr Emuh said each host com­mu­nity was given 10 slots with ben­e­fi­cia­ries rec­om­mended by the com­mu­nity head to fill the space, say­ing a form was given to each ben­e­fi­ciary, duly filled with guar­an­tor de­tails and sent to the court for ver­i­fi­ca­tion be­fore the job was given.

He called on the Fed­eral Govern­ment to seize the op­por­tu­nity of the present sta­bil­ity in the Niger Delta re­gion to im­prove on in­fra­struc­ture and liv­ing con­di­tions of the peo­ple.

Dr Emuh com­mended Pres­i­dent Muhammadu Buhari for the on­go­ing ef­fort at clean­ing up the Ogoni area say­ing the move at soil re­me­di­a­tion in the oil rich re­gion was un­prece­dented.
